Chapter 4 Questions
1. The value of the netflix.com/affiliates as a marketing channel is that it reaches so many different people with different walks of life. There is no limit to how many people just one person can reach let alone hundreds. Word of mouth is everything.
2. A consumer might be motivated to provide answers to market research questions for various reasons. The consumer may have used the product themself and want to share their positive or negative feedback with other consumers. The consumer may have relied on another consumers feedback reguarding a specific product in the past and either used it or stayed away from it. Some consumers just like to feel apart of since they are consumers.
3. On mysimon.com the information I share might be used by the company for marketing in a specific industry by using my age and the specific products I select as a criteria for marketing similar products to others in my age range. They may use the fact I purchased baby clothes and market more baby clothing to my age range, or if I purchased furniture they may assume I am a homeowner because of my age and market more furniture to that age range.
4. Affiliate Marketing has a ver simliar definition in the book as it does on marketingterms.com
Banner on marketingterms.com is broke down into different types where in the book it's just a general definition.
Interactive Marketing is also more in-depth and broke down on the web site than it is in our book, with examples and opinions.
Pop-up Ad has the same definition, it is also broken down into different types of ads.
Pop-under Ad is the same, it tells different shaps, sizes, etc
Spamming pulls up Search Engine Spam. The definition is similar but much more professional shall I say. There are more and bigger words used on the website than in my text book.
Keyword Banner has a very similar definition in the text book as it does on markertingterms.com. this is the most similar I've seen yet. It's almost word for word.
Permission Marketing in the text book as well as on marketingterms.com both speak about customer consent. this is also a word with a very similar definition both places.
Cookie in the text book talks about files being placed on user's hard drive without consent, the website doesnt but, they both talk about this file being placed by remote webserver. same definition, different routes of getting there.
Unique Visitors has the same definition on both the website and in the text book. the websire definantlygets a little more technical with more in-depth facts.

Netflix
1. When the customer is faced with an imbalance between an actual need and the desired state of a need Netflix would come into play by providing the customer with a simple solution. They would offer an convenient, and affordable solution so the customer wouldn't feel as though the are putting themselves out to much on this thing they aren't sure is an actual need in the first place. They would help them feel as if it is ok to have this desired need met.
2. The consumer has already heard word of mouth about how to satisfy this desired need, they have the option of researching online several different places that provide a solution to this need. Netflix should assure the have a very clear and understandable website, they should have advertisements in place where the consumer can see them, tv, radio, theatres, etc. Netflix wants to make shure what they are offering the consumer is a deal they can't just go anywhere else and get. Having customer service in place with great product knowledge is key just in case.
3. At this point the consumer would be trying to figure out the most convenient way to use the service, a way that fits their needs best. Will this be hooked to the television, my labtop, the kids game. Who will be utilizing the service the most, where will it be needing to be hooked up at so I get the most use out of it is what the consumer will be asking. Netflix wants to be able to help the consumer make this decision with product knowledge.
4.Netflix will want to make purchasing easy and convenient. They will want to make sure the consumer is very aware of what is going on. The ins and outs need to be discussed upfront. No small print. This is also where product knowledge will come into play on Netflix part.
5.Providing customer surveys is good postpurchase behavior. Doing follow-ups with all new customers is even better postpurchase behavior.

Page 126 1-10
1.I found a Nikon Coolpix L26 16.1 on Overstock for $96.49. The same camera was on Amazon.com for $105.00
There's a Panasonic NN SD681S on Overstock for $151.43. The same microwave is on Amazon.com for $148.98
The MP3 player I looked at the Coby MP620 4GBlk is $20.16 on Amazon.com and $31.50 on Overstock.
There is not a great price difference between the 2 sites, a few bucks. Delivery options were pretty much the same as well.
I went to Clusty.com and found such options as reviews, imaging, shopping, everyday discount pricing, SLR, free shipping. When I plugged in a particular item there was so many different things i could look at for this item. All the things i mentioned above and more.
It was a very informative experience, way more information then i knew what to do with. The strong points of such shopping tools is all the information you can find. The weak point was that it could easily get overwhelming.
2. Amazon.com personalizes things just for me based off of my interest and pass picks. It makes suggestions as to what I might like based off of it's similarities to what I've liked in the past. It keeps track of my purchases and I find that very helpful.
When i suggest one book, leave the site and, return there are more suggestions and options. These features are definantly more likely to encourage me to make future purchases from Amazon.com.
The 1 Click feature and the other shopping aids provided help me see reviews, prices, time periods from which my selections come from. It identifys writers, directors, actors, ways this piece my come for me rather in a book, movie, or audio. This can lead to increased sales simply because of how helpful it is, how much information you can obtain.
3.I went to landsend.com and selected womens, I then selected the sale category. I broused and found a blouse that I liked, I clicked on it and added it to my bag. It was a very easy process. I'm not sure how there clothes run since I've never shopped here before so I'd just order it in my everyday size. I'm not sure this was the most exciting site I've shopped on so I guess I would say for landsend clients sure this willbring in more sales. I don't think I would have been on this site if it wasn't for this assignment.
5.I estimate the closing cost on a $200,000.00 house would be aroung $13,000.00.
15 yrs- $1100.00
30 yrs- $555.00
The mortgage for a 15 years is about half of what it would be if you signed a 30 year mortgage.
7. A Sony Alpha Nex-6 digital camera
shopping.com/$748.00
mysimon.com/gave price comparison $898.00-$1010.00
bizrate.com/$730.00-$1021.00
couldn't get on pricescan.com
Obviously the best deal was on shopping.com, the most information came from mysimon.com with the price comparisons.
8.On Xing.com some of the job-related offerings are marketing yourself in a professional context and finding useful business contacts as well as assignments and projects.
9.On bazaarvoice.com consumers can engage in a dialog by conversation index, case studies, white paper, webinars, videos, partners, social commerce statistics, customer voice assessment, labs, and social platform.
Quality of content is maintained by orginization and keeping things seperate.

Craigslist Film
We're watching a video about the Craig's List goings ons. There are such a variety of things being sold. There's a man selling doors, a man trying to sell all of the strollers his wife has accumulated since their child's birth. A man is actually riding on the boat he's trying to sale to give you a first hand look at the fun in the sun you can have if you would just make that purchase. A lady wants to get rid of the old furniture in her house. Anything and everything you can think of is being offered.
The thing that scares me the most is the "personals" To each his own but man, this is kinda of frightening. These people are willing to bring strangers into their lives without knowing any history. There are people sharing stories about the people they speak to online not being the person who the actually meet, scary.
The Craig List job thing doesn't seem half bad. I think that's great for someone that's relocating.
I think Craig's List is also a gret networking spot for business purposes. People who have legit business and need a little help, information maybe to get to the next level.
A classmate just said that Craig's List is a way to get ride of the things you don't want in your house. maybe so, if you can get a few bucks for them why not.
I believe it's worth a look for anyone.

Questions for Discussion
1. I think Amazon.com's critical success factors are easy browsing, searching, and ordering; useful product information, reviews, recommendations, and personalization; broad selection; low prices; secure payment systems; and efficient order fulfillment.
I think Amazon.com's decision to offer a much broader slection of items is a good marketing strategy because variety is the "spice of life" so to speak. You can satisfy more customers with more items. I think this will extend the value proposition to it's customers by providing more needed services and items. Why go elsewhere when on place has all you need.
2. Comparison tools are important because you want the customer to be able to see why going with Amazon.com is the better choice, you want them to see the added benefits of their decision.
Product reviews give the customer a chance to see what Joe the neighbor thinks of things, a person who is just like them, who has the same needs they do. They get to see what these products and services are doing for others, how they benefit them.
Customer ratings in online shopping hold value because they give an insite to what's was most helpful and benefecial. They get to find out what was most helpful and what was not.
3. The advantage of a specialized e-tailer such as DogToys.com is personalization, uniqueness, variety, meeting and greating with other dog fanatics, free information, recommendations.
Such a store could survive in the physical world because there are millions of dog lovers always looking for the latest and greatest dog things. Great prices and having the right products could keep them in business forever.
4. Build-to-order is beneficial to the buyer because it is customized, special ordered just to your liking and you know it's paid in full once the purchase is made. there will be no payments to be made or interest rates to worry about.
To the seller build-to-order assures payment before any work is done, it gives them a chance to show off their talents with the special orders.
5. Online travel services are a popular Internet application becuase they are cheaper first of all. The competition keeps the prices that way. There are no travel agents to deal with or the fees that come along with them.
So many Web sites provide free travel to drum up future business I think. If things go well then you are more than likely to come back.
6. Online stock trading you can do from the comfort of your own home, anywhere you are for that matter. You don't have to get up and go see someone, you have everything at your fingertips. all your information can be handled right over the computer. The disadvantage is the personal aspect is gone from it all, actually getting to know your stockbroker and the company memebers who handle your life savings.
The advantages of offline stock trading is the personal aspect of knowing and seeing the people who hold your future in their hands. The disadvantage of offline is having to get up and move around, meeting with people, carrying information around with you.
7. I think this could end up being a situation where too many hands are in the pot. There are way to many people involved in the transactions and this could lead to confusion. I think there could be a loss of site and things could get left to the way side that need attention.
You don't want things to get bigger than they need to be and a situation occurs where the customer is not being taken care of as best possible.
8. The advantages of distributing digitizable products electronically is speed, wider customer range. The disadvantage of this is theft, you can't keep of track of who's doing what. Musicians aren't getting there just due all the time.
The advantage of distributing digitizable products physically is you can keep better track of sales. This way you know who got what and how many they got. there are records.
the disadvantage could be a loss of wages because you can't reach as many people.

Google 2/7/13
We are watching a special on the creators of Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. From what I've gathered this was something Page shared with his Stanford University college professor before it ever came to light. Very close to graduating their Phd program at Stanford they both decided to drop out to persue this dream. There were already five other search engines out at the time. Page and brin were given $100,000.00 to start this company by a Stanford professor. They wanted to organize world information and get it to you at a much faster pace.Things didn't automatically take off by any means. One million dollars was raised by several investors to really get things going. Sequio Capital and Perkins wanted in on this venture shortly after this. The Google Place was the new headquarters, around the fridge during break times when they worked out of the garage were inspirational, so this tradition carried over. There was a very extensive hiring processing, for instance everyone had to show their SAT scores. Alot was going on but no money was coming in. Page and Sergey were in the beginning very much against ads but, soon had to change their minds on that. The home page created by Sergey was very plain in the beginning, his idea was quick movement. By September of 2000 Google had really taken off and surpassed the others. It was time for a Ceo, which Page and Sergey weren't so happy about. They were introduced to Eric Schmidt by one of their investors. Schmidt had a background in business and engineering. Google went public in August of 2004. They signed agreement with Chine 2006, it was pulled for security reasons but renewed in 2010.
Google has been through alot in it's years. It's a learning lesson, ups and downs. I think these 2 young men are very capable to continue to carry this company on through the years. There is no end to the growth potential at Google. Professional and private, I think they have it in the bag.

Help! I'm addicted to web shopping
From the beginning I was hooked. I lost control immediatly. I've started and I can't stop. There is never a time when I can't find something I like, need, or just plain want. Somethings always on sale for me or someone I love. Any and everything I want is right there at my fingertips; morning, noon, or night. I feel like if I don't check on my favorite sites daily I may miss out on something. So while on break at work or school, before I go to bed at night I am checking out the scene. Purses have been my latest weakness, it started with shoes though. I'm looking right now for a luxury bedding set I can purchase for little of nothing. I'm already planning my bedrooms spring makeover. You can do that so easily when your an on line shopper.
I feel like I can find unique things on line as well. Not the everyday stuff you see in stores. Things I probably couldn't even get in my city, or would have to search far and wide for. I like things for me and my loved ones that stand out and my web shopping has helped me with that. Things for your home, oh my, you can find these things in abundance.
I know anything in excess could be bad for you but, I never pay full price and that rocks. I will continue to shop on line and get the most bang for my buck. In these economic times that is one of the smartest things I can do. There is always a bargain to be had and, I'll be there to get it. It makes Christmas shopping so much easier, cuts down on all the hussle and bussle, no traffic, searching for parking spaces, cold weather, or crowds. I love it.
